Portable goalpost safety reminder

02.03.09  15:45

Clubs, Associations, parents, players and officials are reminded of the importance of securing portable goalposts and the dangers of children playing on them.

This comes after reports that another young soccer player has died in the US after swinging on a portable goalpost.

Since 1986 there have been 8 deaths in Australia from falling goalposts and since 1979 there have been 35 deaths in the USA, mostly involving children.

It is vital that in 2009, all clubs again conduct safety checks on all goalposts prior to the start of season and monitor their safe use and storage during the season.

Goalpost safety brochures and information should also be distributed at the start of the season and made available during the season with regular reminders about goalpost safety throughout the season.

The following is provided for the information of parents, players, officials, clubs and associations.

Please also make this information regularly available on your websites, newsletters and at club and association information meetings.
